Don’t Bring Home A Dog!
Bringing home a new puppy is one of the most exciting moments for any family or individual! They are adorable tiny babies, completely innocent little blank slates ready for you to mold them into the perfect new member of your family! But before you take the leap into dog ownership, it’s important to remember, dogs are not disposable. They are living beings with emotions and feelings who, as pack animals by nature, build very strong bonds with their families (their “pack”). Bringing home a new dog is not a decision to be taken lightly. It’s not just about the here and now; it’s about making a commitment to care for and love that dog for its entire life.
Food For Thought
Some of the reasons people rehome their dogs just do not add up. There are many other solutions to these issues other than rehoming your dog! Maybe you suddenly decided that you would like to travel more, no worries! These days there are more dog friendly travel accommodations than ever! Bring your dog along with you, travel the world together! Maybe you must move to a new home, don’t bother looking at places that don’t allow pets! Pets are considered family now more than ever and this shift in our culture has convinced many landlords to make the switch and allow pets in their rentals! Or maybe you have just found out a new baby is on the way, don’t sweat it! Babies raised in homes with pets are proven to have better immune systems, better social skills, and grow to be more responsible human beings! You are your dog’s whole world, their best friend, their everything. Dogs can indeed feel a sense of abandonment. They are deeply emotional creatures that form strong bonds with their humans, when separated from their owners they can become anxious and experience feelings similar to grief. Dog ownership is about welcoming a lifelong friend who will share every high and low with you for the long haul. If you can’t commit to “till death do us part” you may want to reconsider bringing a dog into your family.
Benifits Of Having A Dog
Mental Health
Being around a dog is an instant mood lifter! Snuggling and petting a dog can release hormones like Oxytocin and reduce the stress hormone Cortisol which helps reduce anxiety and depression, lower stress levels, and offer over all emotional support during those though times!
Keep Us Moving!
Dogs need regular exercise, which encourages us to stay active too! Walking regularly helps us, maintain a healthy weight, increases our heart health, and helps improve muscle and joint health! “If you don’t use it, you lose it.”
Help Our Social Lives
Dogs are great icebreakers! Dogs naturally bring people together creating connections and encouraging interaction in many ways such as; making friends at the dog park, joining dog related groups, training classes, or online communities, and attenting dog-friendly events and gatherings!
Teaching Kids Responsibility
Having a dog in the home is a wonderful way to teach children about routine, responsibility, and help them build healthy habits. Dogs also help foster qualities like empathy, patience, and cooperation, all of which help children strengthen their emotional intelligence and ability to connect with others.
Life Happens
At Royal Flush Havanese, we understand that life can sometimes take unexpected turns, and situations beyond our control can arise. A death, terminal illness, or an unexpected serious injury, these are all uncontrollable circumstances and sometimes there is no other option but to find a new loving home for your dog. Having an emergency plan for instances like this is always a good idea, just in case! Arrange an agreement with a family member or close friend to take your dog under their wing if you are put in a position where you can no longer care for them. There are steps you can take to ensure your dog always has a safe, warm place to call home, even when the unexpected or the unthinkable happens. Some devoted dog owners even have arrangements for their pets put into their will!
